So there is a certain stigma attached with “Romantic” Weekend trips in Europe. Now I know that the work Romantic is actually a little taboo therefore maybe in this article I’ll call the “Romantic Weekend Trip” a “Couples Weekend Trip”.
I recently wrote an article about The White House in Koringberg which I stayed at whilst in South Africa. This made me think about our weekend trips in Europe.
Not for the faint hearted
I was always thinking, what would it be like to do something really unbelievable for a weekend. A number of years back I did just that, I went to South Africa for a friends wedding OVER a weekend. Imagine this is something you and your partner can do together. Just get on a plane to Cape Town in the middle of a dreary winter! how wonderful. Off course this is a very (Cough Cough) Romantic idea however it is doable and I am sure your friends will be well jell – mrs hyacinth bucket
On a budget
Now the first option is actually quite costly and I guess that most people will not spend in access of £1100 for a weekend visit however I think there are a number of places that you can visit that does not cost you an arm or a leg.
Europe is fortunate to have a large amount of well services smaller cities to visit. I remember one of my top/most favorable cities that i ever visited was Salzburg. Coming from South Africa, I was not that cultured to know anything about this town. All I did was find the cheapest place to go to and did a google search. The pictures looked inviting so I booked my ticket – never to regret that decision! maybe you can do an impulse buy to a town you don’t know much about.
A few other noteworthy cities to visit and my recommendation is:
- Antwerp – Belgium
- Glasgow – Scotland
- Lyon – France
- Brighton – UK
Most magazines that I read and the equally online, the type of places that we see as couples getaways are actually very very overpriced and quite expensive, this made me wonder if there is an Alternative? What is wrong with exploring your own city. I have found a number of gems in my own backyard here in London. Its a great city and wonderful to explore with your partner.
I think one of the most exciting parts is to do it on the cuff, just say – Lets Go!
In conclusion for this article, I want to leave the thought. If you are planning a “Couples Weekend” away. Why not lock all tech in the hotel save! Can you manage to go a whole 36 hours without FaceBook? You might ask, what about pictures for our memories? Take that dust covered digital camera that is lying in your top shelf or go without pictures for a change. C’mon break the mould I dare you!
